Culture Guangxi Int'l Folk Song & Art Festival Opens

All the parks, squares and streets in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, were filled with crowds of folk artists and spectators on November 13 as the annual International Folk Song and Art Festival got underway .

In Nanhu Park, people of the Zhuang, Mulam, Dong, Maonan and Miao nationalities sang the songs of their own ethnic groups to greet the guests from at home and abroad.

A 25-member art troupe from Romania gave a two-hour performance as part of the festival, and many local people had photographs taken with the Romanian artists afterwards.

Guangxi has 12 ethnic groups and they all love to sing and dance. The festival has been held every year since 1993, and this year artists from Asia, Europe, America and Africa are slated to perform during the five-day event.
