Sci-Tech China Hosts Int'l Wireless Communications Show

Nearly 200 companies from China, Australia, Canada and 14 other countries are participating in the ongoing '99 Beijing International Wireless Communications Exposition at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing.

The exhibition, covering an area of 25,000 square meters, is sponsored by the China National Post and Telecommunications Appliances Corp. and the China International Exhibition Corp.

China Telecom, China Unicom, Shanghai Bell, Alcatel, Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens, Mitsubishi and Motorola are among the major corporations taking part in the exhibition.

Motorola (China) Electronics Ltd. has the largest exhibition area, occupying 200 sq.m, and has representatives from its seven business departments explaining their latest products and technology.

China's telecommunications have witnessed rapid growth in recent years. In the first 8 months of this year, the country's mobile telecommunications exchanges expanded by 24.59 million lines, and added 10.91 million people to the ranks of mobile phone users. Mobile telecommunications now account for almost 50 percent of all the country's telecommunications businesses. (Xinhua)
