World Cyclone Toll Reaches 3,460 in India

The death toll in the super cyclone in east India's Orissa state reached 3,460 by November 9 as bodies of victims continued to be recovered, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.

In some worst-hit areas, scores of bodies were still lying by the roadside, on the sea shore and floating in the saline water with volunteers of different organizations roped in for the clean-up operations.

Meanwhile, disposal of carcasses was being organized by mobilizing civil defense volunteers and voluntary agencies, even as the figure of cattle death rose to 181,700.

Three field ambulances and 262 doctors from across the country have been sent to the cyclone-affected areas to treat the cyclone-hit patients, an official statement was quoted by PTI as saying.
