World China, US to Begin New Round of WTO Talks

China and the United States will begin a new round of bilateral talks in Beijing on China's accession to the World Trade Organization, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) said in Beijing on November 9.

The MOFTEC official, who declined to be identified, told Xinhua that US Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky will arrive here Tuesday night for the negotiations.

China has tried for 13 years to enter the WTO. In September, China and the US agreed to resume their discussions.

Following subsequent talks late September in Washington, MOFTEC Minister Shi Guangsheng said his meeting with Barshefsky was " beneficial" and "constructive."
