Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid arrived Hanoi for a brief visit to Vietnam on the morning of November 9.

Wahid's half-day visit to Vietnam is part of his familiarization tour of Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

It is aimed at getting acquainted with Vietnamese leaders in accordance with the usual practice of ASEAN countries.

According to a schedule released by the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry, the newly-elected Indonesian president will hold talks on bilateral and regional issues with Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong and meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.

This is the seventh leg of Wahid's current ASEAN tour and he will leave for the Philippines later Tuesday to continue his trip.
