China Executive Council of Macao SAR Holds First Meeting

The Executive Council of the future Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) held a meeting on Novermber 3 and approved relevant regulations on the work of the council.

It was the first meeting of the Executive Council which was formed on September 25. The 10 council members include the heads of five major departments of the SAR government, three SAR legislators and two social celebrities. Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive-designate of the Macao SAR, presided over the meeting and briefed the council members about the progress made in drawing up necessary laws for the SAR.

It has been decided that the Executive Council will meet every Wednesday.

In accordance with the Macao Basic Law, the council is an organ for assisting the SAR's chief executive in policy-making.

Before December 20, 1999 when the Macao SAR will be established, the main work of the council is to discuss necessary draft laws to be applied in the SAR and pass on the drafts to the First Legislative Council of the SAR.
