Sports European Champions United through to last 16

David Beckham and Roy Keane scored as European champions Manchester United beat Croatia Zagreb 2-1 on Wednesday to confirm their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Beckham opened the scoring in this tense Greoup D match with a perfectly taken free kick in the 32nd minute. Keane added the second in the 49th minute when his strong shot took a vicious deflection off Croatia's Mario Cvitanovic to beat goalkeeper Tomislav Butina.

But United showed little of their razor sharp attacking flair and created few chances against Croatia, who lost key central defender Goran Juric through injury in the first half.

Playmaker Robert Prosinecki came off the bench for him but showed little of his old inspiration in the midfield although he scored in the dying minutes of the game.
