Within a short space of eight days, Guangdong Customhouses tracked down three most serious cases of smuggling light discs, seizing 9.38 million smuggled piratical discs. These pirated discs have seriously disrupted the publications market order, constituted great harm to China's audio-video, film and television industry, sullied China's image in the protection of intellectual property rights and at the same time impaired the physical and mental health of the people. In recent years, the overseas smuggle of pirated discs has assumed many new characteristics and the smugglers have constantly changed their tricks, but Customs have also explored and gained much new experience. --Placing the focus of attack on sea smuggle of pirated discs. --Raising the rate of inspecting imported goods. --Strengthening tourist inspection and supervision over postal channels. --Strictly prohibiting the illegal entry of overseas disc production equipment into China, and preventing the formation of new underground disc production capacity. Statistics indicate that in less than three years, the nation's Customhouses have discovered 86 cases each involving the smuggle of 10,000 discs, and seized a total of 36.48 million pirated discs, ferreted out five illegal discs production lines and assisted other departments in uncovering 32 illegal discs production lines.
