Sachsenhausen concentration camp gave it a primary position among the German concentration camps during World War II. From 1936 to 1945, 220,000 people were locked here, and about 100,000 people were killed or died of disease or overwork. Now the remaining buildings are open to the public as a museum as well as an education base for the study of World War II.
