As a general rule Chinese people sleep well, but over thirty percent sleep poorly, according to the Chinese Sleep Index Report released on Sunday.
The Chinese Medical Doctor Association issued the report on March 16 to mark World Sleep Day. The report shows that the overall score for the "Chinese Sleep Index" in 2014 is 66.5 points, 2.2 points higher than in 2013. It indicates that the capacity to sleep well in China is on an improving trend. But 36.2 percent of people score less than 60 points, while the figure in 2013 was 24.6 percent. It also indicates that in general people do enjoy a good night's sleep, but there are growing numbers of people who suffer from sleep disorders.
The association analyzed job-related sleep disorders for the first time. The report shows that journalists have the poorest sleep.
In terms of the overall situation, if work is stable people enjoy better quality of sleep. Teachers have the best sleep (62.6 points), followed by civil servants (62.5 points) and ordinary white-collar workers (61.6 points). Small business owners, advertising or PR practitioners, and journalists all score less than 60 points. Journalists have the poorest sleep with 56.5 points.
According to the World Health Organization, about one third of people in the world suffer sleep disorders, and the proportion in China is significantly higher than the international average.
