55-year-old Zhang Ruxing is the only teacher at a school house in the mountainous village of Hucun, located 50 kilometers away from Shangrao County, southeast China's Jiangxi province. Zhang first worked as a substitute teacher in the village in 1976. In the 38 years since then, he has turned down invitations to work in more developed regions and his daughter's request to move to the city. From a substitute teacher, to a citizen-managed teacher, to a state-managed teacher, the "Catcher in the Mountain School" has taught over 200 students spanning up to three generations. Currently, there are altogether 13 students divided into two grades and they're taught in the same class, where Zhang Ruxing employs a "duplex teaching method".
