Singapore "strongly condemns" the bomb blast in Urumqi South railway station which happened on Wednesday evening, the city-state's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.

The ministry said "such dastardly acts of violence against innocent members of the public cannot be justified under any circumstances."

"We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their families and wish the injured a quick recovery. We hope that the perpetrators will be apprehended and brought to justice," the foreign ministry quoted a spokesman as saying.

Urumqi is the capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

At around 7:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday, a gang with knives attacked people at the exit of the South Railway Station of Urumqi and set off explosives, leaving three dead, including two suspects, and 79 injured.
