CHENGDU, March 26 -- U.S. first lady Michelle Obama on Wednesday fed pandas in the southwestern province of Sichuan before wrapping up her week-long China tour.

Obama, her daughters Malia and Sasha, and her mother, Marian Robinson, visited Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, the world's largest panda reserve and home to 128 giant pandas.

They used a long stick to pass apples to six pandas playing on grass and viewed some newborn pandas.

"Thank you for an amazing visit. My family and I very much enjoyed our time here. We are grateful for your tremendous efforts to protect and cultivate this special animal. Keep up the great work!" Obama wrote in the guestbook at the end of the visit.

Obama wrapped up the week-long three-city China tour later on Wednesday.
