BEIJING, March 18 -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang Tuesday met separately with Henry Keswick, chairman of Jardine Matheson Holdings Ltd, and John Wilson, chairman of Fonterra Co-operative Group.
During his meeting with Keswick, Wang said China will further open up and provide better business environment for foreign companies to develop in China.
He expressed the hope that Jardine Matheson Holdings Ltd can continue to enhance its cooperation with China on trade and investment so as to contribute to the China-Britain relationship.
Founded as a trading company in southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in 1832, Jardine Matheson is a business group focused principally on Asia.
During his meeting with Wilson, Wang said China has a huge market for dairy products, calling on Fonterra to strengthen cooperation with Chinese partners in areas like agriculture, environment protection, food safety and others.
He also urged Fonterra to lift quality management and ensure quality of dairy products to create favorable environment for bilateral economic cooperation.
Fonterra launched a global recall last August after batches of whey protein concentrate were wrongly believed contaminated with a botulism. Subsequent tests determined the bug was actually another, non-toxic strain.
