Senior Chinese official calls for deeper SCO anti-terror cooperation

TASHKENT, Oct. 31 -- China hoped Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members would further enhance anti-terrorism cooperation and jointly deal with security threats, a visiting senior Chinese official said here Thursday.

Meng Jianzhu, chief of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, briefed the Executive Committee of SCO's Regional Anti-Terrorism Agency on Monday's terrorist attack in downtown Beijing's Tian'anmen Square.

During talks with Zhang Xinfeng, director of the executive committee,Meng said many countries, including China, were currently under threat amid rising global terrorist activities and China was more determined to fight against violence and terrorist crimes.

Zhang strongly condemned the terrorist attack, which caused civilian casualties, saying the executive committee would fully support a thorough investigation into the case.

The committee would also coordinate with the probe and support communication among all related parties via the SCO anti-terrorism cooperation mechanism, he said.
