BEIJING, Oct. 18 -- Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong on Friday called on China and Australia to make cultural and people-to-people exchange the third pillar of their bilateral ties.
Liu made the remarks while meeting with Australian Governor-General Quentin Bryce.
China is committed to more, stronger ties, she said, noting that cultural and people-to-people exchange is one of the highlights of the development of bilateral relations in recent years.
She said China is willing to work with Australia to strengthen the status of cultural and people-to-people exchange and make it the third pillar of the ties beyond political mutual trust and economic cooperation, so as to promote the stable development of relations.
Bryce said Australia hopes to widen cooperation with China in aeras of education, science and technology, culture and tourism.
Bryce is visiting China from Oct. 15 to 23 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
