UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 24 -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met here with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on bilateral relations.
During their talks, Wang said that the new Chinese leadership attaches great importance to the development of China-Pakistan relations and has, as always, deemed it as one of the priorities in China's neighboring diplomacy.
China stands ready to work with Pakistan to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and turn their friendly political relations into fruits of practical cooperation in various areas, he said.
Lauding Pakistan's efforts in cracking down on the terrorist group "East Turkistan Islamic Movement," Wang said that China will, as ever, support Pakistan in boosting its ability to combat terrorism.
The Chinese foreign minister also offered condolences to families of those killed and injured in a powerful earthquake that jolted Pakistan's southwest province of Balochistan as well as in the twin suicide bomb attack that hit a Christian church in Pakistan's northwest city of Peshawar.
Sharif, for his part, said that Pakistan is willing to work with China to facilitate the implementation of the consensus and the construction of the proposed Pakistan-China economic corridor in particular so as to bring more tangible benefits to both countries.
Pakistan will continue to fight terrorism, despite the enormous sacrifice it has made, to safeguard regional security, he said.
