A delegation, consisting of senior editors and executives from leading African media, visited People's Daily Online on Sept. 16, 2013. Mr. Imma Mbuguni and Mr. Gathenya Njaramba from the delegation shared their opinions on communication between Chinese and African people in an exclusive interview with People's Daily Online.

China is different from that reported by Western media

Mr. Mbuguni is the Manager Editor of Business Times Limited of Tanzania and Mr. Njaramba is the Revise Editor of standard Group of Kenya. In Kenya, Tanzania and most African countries, people can only receive information about China through Western media. Most of information is negative. Having visited China for first time, Mr. Mbuguni and Mr. Njaramba were surprised to see a different China from what they've learned from the Western media. Mr. Njaramba was impressed by the discipline on the road and the respect that people hold to each other. Mr. Mbuguni was moved by the friendship from Chinese people.

African people admire the independence of Chinese people

When talking about the image of Chinese people in the eyes of Africans, Mr. Njaramba said that most African countries including Kenya admire the independence of Chinese people. They admire the way how Chinese people have chosen their economic and political mode. Chinese people aren't enforced to adopt anything. They are admired for learning the new things and make them their own. Even there's an adjustment to be made, they are not afraid to do so.

It's important to improve communication between China and Africa

Both Mr. Mbuguni and Mr. Njaramba think that it's very important to improve the communication between China and Africa. "There should be a special campaign on promoting the communication between Chinese and African people. People need to know more. Media's role is to bridge the gap between the two sides." Mr. Mbuguni said.
