China’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Li Baodong, says China sees no basis for holding talks with Japan on territorial disputes. He says Japan has ignored historical facts and taken a defiant stance on the issue through a series of provocative actions.

Li says Chinese President Xi Jinping is not likely to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 summit. President Xi is scheduled to pay state visits to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in September.

During the visits, he will attend the eighth Leaders’ Summit of G20 to be held in St. Petersburg. He will also attend the 13th Meeting of the Council of Heads of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
