Xi's special envoy to attend Iranian presidential inauguration

BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Cai Wu will attend Iranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani's inauguration as the special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Thursday.

Minister of Culture Cai will present himself at the ceremony in Tehran on Sunday at the invitation of the Iranian government, spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

Rouhani won the presidential election on June 14 by garnering 50.71 percent of the votes. He will succeed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president of Iran.
