During a lunar New Year's eve inspection, Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun told Beijing police to tighten security to ensure a safe Spring Festival holiday.
Guo, a state councilor, told police to increase patrols and transportation security, check fire-fighting equipment and supervise fireworks.
During the inspection, Guo visited police on duty at the busy commercial street of Wangfujing in downtown Beijing and the command center of the capital's public security bureau.
China's Spring Festival, the first day of the lunar new year, falls on Jan. 31 this year.
