CHANGSHA, Jan. 27 -- Tong Mingqian, a senior political advisor in central China's Hunan Province, has been removed from his post for serious discipline and law violations in a major electoral fraud.

The Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) decided at a meeting on Sunday to remove Tong from his post as the advisory body's vice chairman.

His CPPCC membership was also removed.

Tong was implicated in the electoral fraud involving more than 500 lawmakers between Dec. 28, 2012 and Jan. 3, 2013.

Tong, then Party chief of Hengyang in Hunan, was in charge of the election.
