BEIJING, Dec. 20 -- Beijing will open four new subway lines in 2014 as part of its efforts to ease the city’s traffic congestion, according to the municipal government, Beijing Morning Post reported.
The four subway lines, covering 62 kilometers in length, include the second phase of Line 6, Line 7, the eastern section of Line 14 and the western section of the first phase of Line 15.
The municipal government will center on tackling such urban diseases as traffic congestion, water pollution and the disposal of domestic garbage in 2014, according to a to-do-list of 30 things the government plans to undertake to improve residents'livelihood and living environment.
Beijing will have a total of 19 subway lines by 2015, with a combined length of 561 kilometers.
