The Beijing Municipal government plans to number all parking lots in the city and set up an electronic parking map to facilitate better parking management and coordination, according to the Beijing News.

Beijing only has about 2.76 million parking spaces for its 5.4 million cars. Illegal parking charges and civil disorder at car parks abound in the city, said the report

In order to properly develop the electronic map, new equipment should be installed at each parking space to upload real-time information to the mapping system. The initial plan to implement the map was introduced by staff members from BJGL Anda Parking Management Co., Ltd.

New regulation has recently been passed that stipulates all spots that charge for parking must be available to the public 24/7. Violators can face fines of up to 10,000 yuan. Likewise, those who install parking locks to block others from using a spot without the permission of the city can face fines of up to 5,000 yuan.
