An emergency warning was issued on Friday for Typhoon Krosa, one of the strongest recent typhoons, which may hit China's southern coastal regions in the next few days.
A fourth-level emergency, the lowest level, was announced by the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, warning local authorities to monitor the typhoon, forecast its movement and ensure the safety of the people.
The National Meteorological Center said that Krosa's center was about 900 km east of Hainan Island at 10 a.m. on Friday and was moving at a speed of 20 km per hour toward Guangdong and Hainan provinces.
Krosa, the 29th typhoon to hit China this year, will bring strong winds and torrential rain to Hainan, Fujian, Guangdong Provinces as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the center said.
