BEIJING, Oct. 19 -- A farewell ceremony will be held at Beijing's Summer Palace on the afternoon of October 24 for people to say good bye to the Giant Yellow Duck, the hosting Beijing Design Week's organizing committee announced on October 15, Xinhua reported.
Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, dubbed the "father of the rubber duck," as well as several Chinese celebrities, including Lin Yilun, famous pop singer and director of the Chinese Rubber Duck Fan Club, will make an appearance to bid their farewells to the duck.
Chinese Kung Fu star Jackie Chan, who was invited to act as chairman of the Chinese Rubber Duck Fan Club, will also fly in from the U.S. on that special day, Zhang Daping, publicity manager of Beijing Design Week, said.
Good news is that the 18-meter-tall Rubber Duck will stay at the Summer Palace for one more day until it leaves the city for good on October 27. Originally, it was scheduled to be displayed there from September 26 to October 26.
A number of other activities will be held in the countdown to the duck's farewell. Netizens can post photos they have taken of the duck on Weibo.com and participate in the discussion. Hofman will personally select 30 creative works and invite the photographers to attend the farewell ceremony on October 24.
Visitors can have their Beijing Design Week passport imprinted with the farewell mark at the Summer Palace. A special farewell seal was designed by the event's organizing committee.
They can also buy copyrighted small duck toys with the signatures of famous showbiz stars from Huayi Bros. Media Group in charity auctions on Taobao.com.
