A total of 24 giant panda cubs have been born in the conservation centre so far this year and 20 of the newborns are alive and well. Most giant pandas are not good breeders when in captivity. Pandas are known for being sexually inactive and cubs are often born between July and September.
The first set of panda twins born in the centre this year is the children of the panda named “Haizi”, which is also the first pair in the world in 2013.
The centre also sent panda breeding experts to help the zoos inside and outside China foster the new generation of pandas. As result, the panda families in the zoos of Beijing, Taipei, Vienna and Washington D.C. successfully greet new member this year.
