A father stuck needles into his two-month-old daughter in attempts to kill her because he suspected she wasn’t his child.

However, Yin Zhihe, 24, is now filled with remorse as a DNA test has proved that he is the child’s father, said officers in Bei’an City, in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province.

Yin was detained by police on charges of attempted murder after handing himself in last Sunday, the local Modern Evening Times newspaper reported yesterday.

“Yin admitted that he intended to kill the baby girl without being noticed because he suspected she was not his child,” the newspaper quoted Bei’an City police as saying.

It was reported that Yin had undergone fertility treatment but when his wife, Li Mingyang, subsequently became pregnant, he was suspicious about who the father was.

Li said doctors told Yin that his sperm count was still low.

He refused Li’s demand for a DNA test to show the child, named Yin Shengjie, was his and targeted the baby after they quarreled, Li said.

Police say Yin told them he stuck the first needle into Shengjie on August 4 — at the baby’s full month celebration.

The child was taken to hospital the next day and the needle removed. She was discharged from hospital on August 11.

It is said that Yin bought a box of needles later and stuck another three needles into the baby’s body on August 16 and August 17.

She was rushed to hospital again on August 18, where it was found that the needles had pierced her liver and a kidney. The 4.5-centimeter needles were removed.

The baby girl is now recovering well, although the operations have left scarring on her body, her mother said.
