Continuous downpours caused by Typhoon Utor have left six people dead in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said on Monday.
The typhoon is the 11th and strongest to hit China so far this year.
As of 3 p.m. Monday, about 1.12 million people in the region have been affected and 110,000 have been evacuated from flooded areas, the ministry said in a report.
About 12,400 houses have collapsed or suffered damage and the direct economic loss is calculated at around 400 million yuan (about 65.31 million U.S. dollars), according to the ministry.
The National Disaster Reduction Commission and the Ministry of Civil Affairs issued an emergency response on Monday afternoon and dispatched a working group to Guangxi to help disaster relief work.
The central government has allocated 2,600 tents, 5,000 folding beds and 5,000 cotton quilts to the disaster zone.
