The 2013 National Online Media Reporting Activities kicked off in Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region on Tuesday.

The Ningxia inland opening-up pilot economic zone will be one of their main destinations.

Nearly a hundred editors and reporters with the mainstream online media organizations of China take part in the activities. They include those from the central key news websites like the People's Daily, Xinhuanet, commercial websites like Sina, Sohu, Tencent, Netease, Phoenix , as well as other websites from 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.

The five-day reporting activities are guided by the State Internet Information Office, hosted by the Publicity Office of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Committee of the Communist Party of China, and associated by Ningxia Expo Bureau, construction leading group office of Ningxia inland opening-up pilot economic zone, Ningxia Internet Information Center and other units.

The opening-up pilot economic zone was officially approved by China’s State Council on Sept. 10, 2012.

It is the first open pilot zone covering the whole territory of a province in the inland regions. It’s significant to promote the economic development in China's western regions and to deepen the economic and trade exchanges between China and the Arab countries.

Members of the media delegation will go to the region’s cities of Yinchuan, Zhongwei, Zhongning, Wuzhong and Shizuishan.

They will visit the permanent venue for China-Arab State Expo, cultural corridor of million acres of grapes at the eastern foot of Helan Mountain, vegetable base in Yaofu County, Ningdong Energy and Chemical Base, Yinchuan Bonded Area, Riverfront District, Zhongning Chinese Wolfberry Park, Zhongwei Photovoltaic Industrial Park and other projects in these cities.

The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region lies along the western reach of the Yellow River and is bordered by Inner Mongolia to the north and west, Shaanxi to the east and Gansu to the south.

The region was once a part of the Silk Road that connected China with central Asia and Europe.

The region has developed a modern comprehensive industrial system that consists of the chemical, machinery, textile, construction material, food, electronics, meters, pharmaceutical and agricultural by-products industries.
