In the first half of 2013, prosecutorial agencies across China investigated 6,007 functionaries on suspicion of dereliction of duty and rights infringement, new data has showed.

Prosecutors investigated 4,288 cases of dereliction of duty that seriously hurt people's economic and political rights and interests, as well as their human rights, according to figures released on Monday by the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).

Prosecutors focused on dereliction of duty in fields including the eco-environment, poverty alleviation and development, agricultural machinery subsidies, state education grants, forestry affairs, food safety regulation, compensation and resettlement for land acquisition and demolition, and state subsidies, the SPP said.

At a recent conference for the country's prosecutorial agencies, the SPP also urged prosecutors at all levels to closely investigate in the latter half of the year dereliction of duty in such fields as education, employment, social security, medical services, affordable housing and work safety.
