China had a population of 1.354 billion by the end of 2012, according to a report released by the National Health and Family Planning Commission on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the sex ratio at birth was 117.7 boys to 100 girls, down 0.08 from the end of last year.
In 2012, there were 16.35 million newborns, with a natural population growth rate of 0.495 percent on a yearly basis, the report quoted the National Bureau of Statistics as saying.
Some 6.48 billion yuan ($1.06 billion) was doled out to 6.042 million people in 2012 as a reward to stick to the family planning policy, up 2.19 billion yuan from the same period in 2011. Of the total beneficiaries, 5.371 million were from rural areas.
