NANNING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were injured and dozens of houses destroyed when a tornado swept through parts of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Wednesday morning.
The storm hit Qixing District, Guilin City and Rongan County, Liuzhou City at around 5 a.m., local meteorological authorities said.
Six people were injured in Qixing, and at least one of them is in a serious condition, the district's government said after an initial investigation. Twenty-two houses collapsed in the district. The tornado also damaged large swathes of crops.
The extreme weather brought more than 50 mm of rainfall in 25 minutes and a gale of 53.6 km per hour to Rongan, according to the county's meteorological bureau.
The Rongan county government is still counting the losses to the stormy weather.
Relief work is under way in the affected areas.
