International army academy commandants forum held in Nanjing

NANJING, November 7 (ChinaMil) -- The International Army Academy Commandants Forum was held on November 5, 2013 at the Nanjing Army Command College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Commandants and military attachés from Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the United States held discussions with representatives of 11 post-oriented-education military academies of the PLA on building a new-type army that meets the needs of information-based warfare.

In their keynote speeches, Chinese and foreign commandants gave briefings on army building in transition of the armed forces and military academies of their countries as well as goals, experience, practices, thinking and understanding of army command personnel training.

The participants in the forum also discussed in groups and exchanged views on such issues as innovation of army operational concepts, coordinated actions and training of all army arms in joint operations, innovation of training mode of army commanding officers, and development trend of army battlefields.

Chen Yong, assistant to chief of general staff of the PLA, met with representatives of the foreign commandants and attended the forum.

Chen Yong pointed out that accelerating army transition and building a new-type army that meets the needs of information-based warfare are general consensus of the armed forces across the world.

Chen Yong held that the forum has offered Chinese and foreign army academy commandants an open and pragmatic platform, and it helps to further broaden the understanding of the army's value and functions in the information age, further clarify the development path of army transition, and further enhance the quality and efficiency of army vocational education.
