Sun Jianguo meets with UN under-secretary-general

BEIJING, October 17 (ChinaMil) -- Sun Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met with Hervé Ladsous, under-secretary-general of the United Nations for peacekeeping operations, and his party on the morning of October 16, 2013 at the Peacekeeping Center of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Sun Jianguo said that the UN has made outstanding contributions to world peace and development since its founding 68 years ago.

China consistently stands for strengthening the UN's authority and role. To host the 6th Peacekeeping Experts' Meeting under the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) is a specific measure of the Chinese side for improving peacekeepers' competence at the UN's request.

The Chinese side will continue to support the UN's leading role on such issues as maintenance of world peace and security and so on, fully participate in the UN's work and fulfill in good faith its international obligations in the future.

Hervé Ladsous expressed his gratitude to China for actively taking part in the UN's peacekeeping operations. He said that Chinese peacekeepers' professional skills, dedication and great discipline are truly impressive.

Hervé Ladsous was invited to come to China to take part in the 6th ARF Peacekeeping Experts' Meeting.
