BEIJING, August 29 (ChinaMil) -- A taskforce of the East China Sea Fleet under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) passed through the Miyako Strait Tuesday afternoon after over 20 hours of continuous navigation and entered the Western Pacific Ocean to carry out its annual regular high-sea training.

The taskforce consists of the guided missile frigates "Yiyang" and "Changzhou" as well as a shipboard helicopter. Since their departure from a naval port in Zhoushan of east China's Zhejiang province on August 26, the two warships have carried out in succession air and submarine defense drills.

The early-warning and detecting equipment and the weaponry systems of the two warships are kept in the combat-readiness status during the navigation so as to ensure timely and effective responses in case of emergencies.

It is a common practice for navies of various countries in the world to carry out high-sea training in international waters, Yan Zhengming, commander of the taskforce, told PLA Daily reporter.
