BEIJING, April 18, (ChinaMil) -- The national land-based NBC (nuclear and bio-chemical) emergency rescue team established by the Beijing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) carried out an emergency rescue joint drill in response to an unexpected incident of hazardous chemical explosion with relevant departments of state ministries and commissions as well as Beijing Municipal Government on the morning of April 17, 2013.
The drill verified the military-civilian joint rescue capabilities under the unexpected hazardous situation and explored the ways and methods of emergency handling and rescue for similar unexpected incidents.
The national land-based NBC emergency rescue team, a key construction project of the state, is a professional NBC emergency rescue force. Since its establishment in 2009, the rescue team successively and successfully fulfilled the tasks such as the emergency nuclear radiation monitoring and measuring of Japan's Fukushima nuclear accident. This is the first joint large-scale military-civilian comprehensive drill for the rescue team since its establishment.
"With the increasing expansion of the industrial production capacity, the chemical hazard incidents occasionally occur. This drill effectively verified the capability of the military and civilian to jointly deal with similar unexpected situations and provided an important reference for our next-step training," said Yu Shengyue, director of the Chemical Defense Technology Office under the Beijing MAC of the Chinese PLA.
