Top legislator attends symposium marking late general's 100th birthday

BEIJING, Sept. 2 -- China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang on Monday attended a symposium to commemorate the centennial birthday of late general Wei Guoqing (1913-1989), a former member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Zhang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, met with Wei's relatives prior to the symposium.

Wei was a member of the Political Bureau of the 10th, 11th and 12th CPC Central Committee, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 4th through 7th National People's Congress and vice chairman of the 4th and 5th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
