Top political advisor urges united front members to study CPC congress

BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Monday called on members of united front circles to study and implement the spirit of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

At an opening ceremony of a symposium for united front circles to study and implement the spirit of the congress, Yu said the united front circles should also study the speeches of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and stick to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said socialism with Chinese characteristics is the result of efforts made by the CPC and people over the last 90-plus years and a scientific summary of China's reform and opening up.

The path should not be deviated from if the country wants to build a moderately prosperous society and achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Yu said.

Yu, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, added that socialism with Chinese characteristics is the fundamental path for the development of contemporary China.

He also asked united front circles to further participate in decision-making that is related to the country's development.

The ceremony was presided over by Ling Jihua, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee.
