XIAMEN, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng has called for further deepening the Chinese mainland's economic exchanges and cooperation with Taiwan.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks during his field study tour from Friday to Sunday of southeast China's Fujian Province on the west bank of the Taiwan Strait.

The tour saw him visit enterprises, ports, construction sites in capital city Fuzhou, port city Xiamen, and the Pingtan experimental zone, as well as preside over a symposium.

At Xiamen, Yu studied the conditions of the port, the safety performance of ships and the direct post, shipping and business links between Fujian and Taiwan's Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu.

Yu stressed that economic and trade cooperation with Taiwan played a significant role in the progress of cross-Strait relations, and the mainland should explore more effective channels to expand the scope for cooperation and improve investment-related policies and regulations.

According to Yu, the mainland will support Taiwan-funded enterprises in the region to accelerate transformation and innovation as well as help them solve problems during operations.

While visiting the Pingtan experimental zone, a pilot hotspot for the mainland-Taiwan exchange, Yu called for scientific planning, strict management and green development for the construction of the area so as to boost cross-Strait cooperation.

During the tour, Yu also visited local political consultative officials and urged them to push forward the sustainable economic development and social stability of Fujian.
