"Lego" continues to lead North American box office

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 16-- "The Lego Movie," a 3D computer animated comedy of Warner Bros. Pictures, which depicts a world based on the colorful toy blocks, collected 48.8 million U.S. dollars in ticket sales this weekend, topping the North American box office chart for a second week.

The Warner Bros. release has earned about 129.1 million dollars in ticket sales since opening on Feb.7, according to studio estimates from Rentrak.

"Lego" was followed by "About Last Night" and "RoboCop," Sony's two new releases.

The romantic comedy remake "About Last Night," featuring Kevin Hart, grossed 27 million dollars in the weekend. The film marked another strong performer for Hart on the heels of last month's "Ride Along."

"RoboCop" with a tickets earning of 21.5 million dollars, was ranked the third. Of the tickets sales, IMAX showings contributed 4.5 million dollars. This release is Jos Padilha's remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 Hollywood classic sci-fi film "RoboCop." The audience for the film was 62 percent male and 64 percent over the age of 25, according to Sony.

"RoboCop" earned a respectable "B+" rating on CinemaScore.

Rounding out the 10 most popular films in North America this weekend, as estimated by studios, were "Monuments Men" (15 million U.S. dollars), "Endless Love" (13.4 million), "Ride Along" (8.8 million), "Winter's Tale" (7.8 million), "Frozen" (5.9 million), "Lone Survivor" (4.1 million) and "That Awkward Moment" (3.3 million).
