Cajun shrimp offered by Bubba Gump restaurant [Donna Mah/For China Daily] |
As we approach the tail end of summer vacation, parents can take their children up to The Peak, Hong Kong Island's highest point, for one of the most famous views in the world, and stroll along the nearby walking trails.
The Peak is a must-see for visitors, and the best way to get there is to take a ride on the famous Peak Tram from the Lower Peak Tram Terminus on Garden Road.
Taking this breathtaking ride, the children will get to enjoy the stunning views as the tram climbs up the steep 373 meters. The ride up the slope is almost as spectacular as the view from the top.
When you are there, grab a bite at the children-friendly Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant in the Peak Tower.
During the summer holidays, Bubba Gump is serving a Kids Afternoon Tea Menu and a Rainbow Specialty Drinks menu.
The afternoon tea menu is available from Monday to Thursday from 3 to 5 pm for HK$148 ($20) for one adult and one child.
There are three menus to choose from - a platter with scampi and pasta, a platter with baked seafood and rice, or a platter with burger and fries - plus garlic bread and Caesar salad. The meal also includes a dessert platter of key lime pie, strawberry dream, and jello, as well as a beverage.
For those not familiar with Bubba Gump, it is an American restaurant chain that was created after the success of the movie, Forrest Gump. The restaurant is named after the two main characters in the movie, Bubba Blue and Forrest Gump.
Though the restaurant serves a great number of shrimp dishes, it also serves other seafood dishes in Southern American or Cajun style, steaks, ribs, burgers and sandwiches.
And let's not forget the amazing views of Hong Kong from this height. We dined there on a cloudy and rainy day and the skies were very dramatic as great, steel gray clouds rolled in and suddenly buildings and trees were no longer visible.
My 4-year-old daughter chose the scampi platter as it came with pasta, which she loves to eat.
Bubba Gump provides children's cutlery and paper cups, but you may need to ask for these.
She started her meal with an apple juice and I had one of the summer specialty drinks, the cooling watermelon lemonade, made with fresh watermelon juice and 7-up served in a special Bubba Gump souvenir light-up glass. My drink lit up our table!
We also ordered the Cajun shrimp, which was spicy and buttery and served with garlic bread, the Shrimp Shack mac and cheese, and the colorful pear and berry salad with glazed pecans and charbroiled chicken.
It was a fun excursion with my daughter, as it reminded me of how beautiful this city is. Not just for tourists, but definitely a "must" for anyone.
