It is the first feature-length film directed by anime master Miyazaki Hayao in five years since his work "Ponyo." And it is enthusiastically anticipated by fans.
Now open in Japan, the film tells the story of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the Zero fighter plane used by Japan in World War II. The story spans over 30 years, revealing the aspirations and struggles of ordinary people amid dramatic social change.
Miyazaki is a highly productive creator, whose career in animation spans more than 50 years. He founded Studio Ghibli in 1985, and made it the most popular animation studio among eastern audiences. Miyazaki attained international acclaim in 2002 with his Acadamy Award winning film "Spirited Away".
