A large scale modeling contest has just concluded in Vancouver, Canada. Ten models from North America have competed for the grand prize -- a trip to China to take part in the country’s largest and most prestigious modeling competition.
One of the largest modeling contests in Vancouver -- "Model Look North America", has returned for its 9th annual event. 10 finalists have been selectd to take part in photo-shoots, workshops, interviews and fashion shows. And all of it has culminated in a spectacular finale.
The show opens with a Tai Chi performance, followed by a fashion show featuring 10 finalists and 6 past winners, all wearing traditional Chinese costumes with a modern twist. The organizer says the aim is to spread Chinese fashion and culture, as well as promote exchange.
Li Xiaobai, president of New Silk Road Organization, said, "The most important part of this contest is the exchange between home and abroad. Instead of Chinese models, we always choose local models to participate in the North America contest. It’s an efficient way to spread our own culture and fashion to other countries. And after years of cooperation with local organizations, the contest is becoming more influential."
Along with celebrations of leading Chinese fashion talents, models also showcase daywear by OZZO, as well as designs by local designers JAC and Jacqueline Conoir. Vancouver’s Je Vis Couture collection concludes the evening’s proceedings. James Ho, one of the judges of the contest, gives a very high evaluation of the models.
The top prize goes to Dennika Wheat from Nanaimo, followed by Jessie Li and Jennifer Liu from Vancouver. The young winner can’t contain her excitement.
In addition to the top three winners, awards are also handed out to Victoria Ediger, who wins for Most Photogenic, and Jessie Li, for Best Catwalk.
