AN original Chinese musical "Finding Destiny" - about the obsessive search for Mr Right - will be staged for five months in an effort to test the market and cultivate local taste for Chinese musical comedy.
The show at the Jasmine Theater, which opened yesterday, is adapted from the popular South Korean musical "Finding Mr. Destiny." It is the third musical production of United Asia Live Entertainment, which produced the Chinese versions of "Mamma Mia!" and "Cats."
The story revolves around a young woman who hires a matchmaking agency to help her find a mate, but instead she falls in love with the man who runs the dating business.
Original music and Chinese elements are added to make the show more Chinese, according to director Wu Zeyu.
"The Korean version put more focus on the comedic effects, while we focus more on the emotion part," says Wu.
Apart from the male and female leads, one actor will play 18 other characters, including the young woman's stern father, a pretty airline attendant and an Indian tour guide who sings and dances.
