Chinese Tango dancers will make their international debut at the Tango World Championship according to an announcement made during a press conference held by the China-Argentina Tango Association on Tuesday night in Buenos Aires.
"Tango, as an intangible cultural heritage, has drawn increasing interest from Chinese people and a large number of Tango dancers in Argentina have been invited to perform in China. In recent years, the Tango association has been established in many Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai," said Han Mengtang, the cultural counselor of the Chinese embassy in Argentina during the press conference.
The first participation of Chinese Tango dancers has drawn lots of attention from the Argentine society and more than 20 mainstream media outlets reported the conference.
The Buenos Aires Tango Festival and World Championship kicked off on Wednesday night, August 14, 2013.
More than 2,000 artists, musicians and dancers are expected to take part in the festivities that will run throughout the city until August 27. The finals of the Tango World Championship will be held on August 26 and August 27.
