Although Cristiano Ronaldo continues to capture the headlines in Spain and will presumably fill even more front pages, it is still a question for him to be named as Balon D' Or in the coming week.

Real Madrid youngster Jese Rodriguez provided some competition to the Portuguese ace in the past weeks.

Jese scored the only goal of the game as Real Madrid defeated Paris Saint Germain in a friendly game played in Doha on Thursday and although the game saw both teams field sides filled with a large number of youngsters, Jese's goal served to confirm the impression he has given throughout the season.

The 20-year-old was promoted to the Real Madrid first team this summer after scoring 22 goals in 38 appearances for the B-team last season and has so far made nine appearances in the BBVA Primera Liga, scoring two goals.

The last of those goals secured a vital three points for Real Madrid on their visit to Valencia in the final game of 2013, allowing Carlo Ancelotti' s side to remain in contact with FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at the top of the league table and although he will struggle to be an automatic starter in a squad that contains Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, Jese is showing he is a player his coach can increasingly turn to.

"It is very important to get game time and you have to take advantage of the chances that you get," said Jese in the Spanish press on Thursday.

The youngster believes his recent displays have helped him, "earn the chance to play," and that Ancelotti is "realizing," what his talents are after recent displays.

"It is very hard to play for Real Madrid, you have to stand out with your displays and earn your opportunity. I think I am doing that and I have to thank the coach and Zinedine Zidane for the confidence they have shown in me," said Jese.

Real Madrid face a tough struggle for the Spanish league title, but as always the club will also have a lot of attention placed on trying to win that elusive tenth Champions League title.

"I hope that in 2014 the team can remain united, because that is the way we will win important titles. The squad is ready and we are all focused," he concluded.

Jese's arrival on the scene has for once shown that Real Madrid do not need to spend huge amounts of money to find attacking talent, which is sometimes already close to home.
