A rescuer from the Russian Emergencies Ministry has taken the Olympic torch to the bottom of the world’s deepest lake, Lake Baikal.
The mission was the result of two months of training dives. Under water, Nikolai Rybachenko handed the torch over to a popular TV presenter and a member of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Committee. The Olympic torch is on an unprecedented 65 thousand kilometre, 123-day journey, criss-crossing Russia to showcase the country’s regional and ethnic diversity.
