Cuba to send best stars to track cycling World Cup in Mexico

Cuba will send a five-woman team, which includes former world champions Lisandra Guerra and Yumari Gonzalez, to the Track Cycling World Cup to be held in the Mexican city of Aguascalientes on December 5-7, an official of the sport said here Monday.

Cuba's selection will compete in all the modality, and is completed by other medalists such as Marlies Mejia, Arlenis Sierra and Yudelmis Dominguez, national commissioner Hector Ruiz told official Radio Havana Cuba.

This tournament in Aguascalientes provides tickets for the World Championship next year in Cali, Colombia, according to Ruiz.

"We will go to Aguascalientes with the best we have, and have the goal of classifying for the championship in Colombia" and in the long term for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the official said.

"Our deluxe cycling quintet will be led by coaches Leonel Alvarez and Florencio Perez," the commissioner said.

Cuba accumulates several medals in cycling world championships and World Cup, including an Olympic silver achieved by Yoanka Gonzalez in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
