Zambia's top international striker Collins Mbesuma said Monday he would join the national soccer team for FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana despite his South African club claiming his six-week sideline due to injury, the Times of Zambia reported on Monday.

The burly striker, who was in the country to attend the burial of his father, said he was ready to face Ghana in the crucial qualifier and that he was not bothered by the news that the injury would rule him out.

"I am joining training camp on Monday. I want to play in the Ghana game but I'll let the medical team at the national team make a decision but I feel like I can play," he was quoted as saying by the paper.

The striker is reported to have sustained the injury while playing for South Africa's premier team giants Orlando Pirates just over a fortnight ago and the club's medical team said he would be out for a minimum of six weeks.

But the Zambia national soccer team doctors insisted in having the striker in camp to assess him following his team's claim that he would be out for six to nine months, Times said.

Zambia will play Ghana on Sept. 6, away in Kumasi. The game will see the winner progressing to the last round of qualifiers. Ghana leads Group D on 12 points while Zambia has 11 points. Sudan and Lesotho have already been eliminated.

The Zambia national soccer team is currently in camp in South Africa preparing for the game.
